On 8 March the Australian Vice-Chancellors’ Committee (AVCC) released its report Australian University Student Finances 2006, a summary of findings from the national survey of students in Australia’s 37 public universities conducted in 2006.
The report reveals that:
- 40% of full-time undergraduates indicated that paid work adversely affects their studies, compared to 16% of surveyed students in the 2000 study.
- Students are working long hours with almost a quarter of full-time undergraduates indicating that they often missed classes because of work commitments.
- 24.4 % (10.7% in 2000) of all undergraduates obtain a repayable loan to enable them to continue studying.
The report is available via the CSU Library’s catalogue or here.
