The research report Public Support for Science and Innovation was released today (27/03/07).
“The Productivity Commission’s report says the $6 billion in government funding has been too focused on research with commercial benefits, instead of other projects. It also warns the Government against cutting funding to the CSIRO.”(ABC Online)
Professor Gerard Sutton (President, Australian Vice-Chancellors’ Committee) in the AVCC media release stated that the report is “a timely reminder of the importance of public support for science and innovation for the economic, social and environmental future of Australia… A strong national science and innovation effort is critical to the strength and dynamism of Australia’s economy and society.”
