An Australian report titled ‘The coming crisis of Medicare : what the Intergenerational Reports should say, but don’t, about health and ageing’ has recently been written by The Centre for Independent Studies.
“Taxpayer-funded health systems are a twentieth-century social policy designed to provide relatively cheap and basic healthcare to much younger and healthier populations. The demographic and medical realities of the twenty-first century impy that Medicare will not provide every citizen with ‘free’ access to all the new medicine.”
This report suggests that Australians need to think seriously about Medicare reform and explore new ideas about how to self-fund their healthcare in the future. Click here to read the report.
