What’s on your bookshelf?

Is your book collection at home looking like this?

Librarything.com is a social cataloging web application for storing and sharing personal library catalogues and book lists. LibraryThing searches the Library of Congress, all five national Amazon sites, and more than 130 world libraries. You can edit your information, search and sort it, “tag” books with your own subjects, or use the Library of Congress and Dewey systems to organise your collection. All you have to do is enter some title keywords, the ISBN, or the author.

LibraryThing is also an amazing social space, often described as “MySpace for books” or “Facebook for books.” You can check out other people’s libraries, see who has a similar library to yours, swap reading suggestions and so forth. LibraryThing also makes book recommendations based on the collective intelligence of the other libraries.

Currently there are over 315,000 users and 21 million books in the system. With new international libraries are being added frequently it allows for easier cataloguing of non-English language titles.
