Why do we need to evaluate web resources?

At university we are assessed on how well we can synthesise and critically assess information. That means our assessments need to utilise information that is accurate, relevant, well argued and comes from reliable and respected sources.

When we use information that is inaccurate, comes from a source which is outdated, with little credibility or standing in the concerned subject area it weakens the veracity of what we are trying to argue in our assessment.

While the Internet has made it easier for us to find information it has also made it easier to publicise inaccurate information that is not scholarly or academic by nature.

Our information literacy library guide has more on how to find the quality information you need for your assessments.
