This year’s NAIDOC Week theme – We all Stand on Sacred Ground – reminds us of the deep and enduring connection that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have with land and sea.
Many places have important spiritual meanings to Indigenous people. Not only ceremonial grounds and rock art galleries but natural features, such as lakes, bays, rivers, mountains, and rocks.
The 2015 theme also reminds us of the continuing work of those people who strive to preserve the sacred and significant sites which are so linked to Indigenous culture. Fittingly, this year marks the 30th anniversary of the hand-back of Uluru to its traditional owners.
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture, and achievements. Events held locally in the Albury-Wodonga region are running all week starting Saturday 4th July. There’s a huge range of family, community, storytelling, sport, arts and theatre activities.
