The Charles Sturt University Library is once again taking part in the Indigenous Literacy Foundation‘s (ILF) Great Book Swap, raising funds to support literacy programs and provide culturally relevant books and resources to children in remote First Nations Communities across Australia.
Literacy opens doors to learning, opportunity and connection. Yet in many remote Communities across Australia, access to books and reading materials remains limited. The Indigenous Literacy Foundation works alongside remote First Nations Communities to improve access to culturally relevant books and literacy resources though programs including:
- Community publishing: Publishing books created by Community, including many written in First Nations languages.
- Book supply: Providing new and culturally relevant books to remote Communities.
- Book Buzz: Encouraging a love of reading among young children through story and literacy programs.
The Great Book Swap is a simple way to make a difference. Donate a gold coin and choose a book, puzzle, or treat, with all funds raised helping the ILF provide culturally relevant books and literacy resources to children living in remote First Nations Communities.
Over the coming weeks, Great Book Swap stalls will be popping up across our campuses, offering a wide range of pre-loved books to browse and purchase. Every donation helps support the important work of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
This year our fundraising goal is $1000, so whether you’re a passionate reader, a student looking for a study break, or a staff member keen to support a worthy cause, we’d love you to get involved.
Where possible, campuses have aligned their event dates with on-campus intensive school periods, creating additional opportunities for online students visiting campus to take part. If you’re on campus for intensives, we’d love to see you there too!
Want to be involved?
You can donate good-quality recent fiction and non-fiction books at your local campus library. Staff and students will then be invited to “swap” a book for a gold coin donation, with all proceeds supporting the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

Then the Learning Commons for an additional week.

Thursday 27 August outside the Café
Then the Library for an additional 2 weeks.
Port Macquarie
Tuesday 1 – Friday 11 September in the Learning Commons level 2.
Wagga Wagga
Tuesday 1 – Friday 4 September in the Learning Commons/Café.
Albury-Wodonga
Monday 7 – Friday 11 September in the Library/Learning Commons.
Orange
Wednesday 9 September at Banjo’s Café
Then the Library for the remainder of the week.
