So I’m going to be a Uni Student…

We’ve all heard those legendary tales of being a poor, struggling student. Reading this, you may be about to embark on your university adventure. Now you’re most likely thinking: Is uni really like this? How will I balance a social life with studies? You are NOT alone! Below are five top student survival tips:
1) BUDGETING
– avoid lots of takeaways (it adds up!)
– learn to buy food when it is required and look for specials
– learn to like Op Shops!
– look for textbooks being sold by other students or on the textbook exchange
– cut back on going out and spending a lot of money on one night
2) CHORES
– take initiative and clean up after yourself
– if sharing accommodation, make a chores chart for the week
– Make time on the weekend to all clean-up together (if in share accommodation)
3) COUPON HUNTING
– look online for local discount coupons and vouchers
– try Facebook business pages for current and upcoming deals (especially restaurants!)
– vouchers and discounts for meal deals can be found in the local newspaper (Dominoes always has deals going)
4) TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
– make time away from study to do things that you enjoy!
– join a local social of sporting group to meet new people
– though on a budget, eat well (frozen vegetables and fruit are very economical)
– avoid expensive beauty products if you can (olive oil and coconut oil are examples of inexpensive, healthy moisturisers)

5) KEEP ON TRACK
– if you’re worried about feeling overwhelmed, get a diary or weekly planner (know when you have assignments due, an appointment, etc)
– ask for help!
– talk to someone you trust and know about anything that is worrying you
– know what on-campus support services are available at CSU
