IDAHOBIT Day!

International day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia is celebrated every year on May 17! This day aims to
draw the attention of policymakers, opinion leaders, social movements,
the public and the media to the violence and discrimination experienced
by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ+) people. On May 17 people all over the world will stand in support of LGBTIQ+ mates, colleagues and families.

These mobilisations unite millions of people in support of the recognition of human rights for all, irrespective of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression. Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism, and Transphobia can occur online, face to face and affect everyone by creating spaces where people feel unsafe and like they can’t be themselves. Sexuality and gender identity or intersex status aren’t always visible, so creating a culture where everyone feels safe, even if there aren’t any visible LGBTIQ+ people is even more important.

So what can you do? If you would like to take part, or discover ways to celebrate, join in an event happening on a CSU campus, or take a look at the Get Active page on the IDAHOBIT Australia website. An easy way to be involved this May 17 is to Go Rainbow, and spread love!
